Ben Keith will be on the expert speaker panel at the INTERPOL and the Rule of Law Webinar taking place on 09 July 2024, on behalf of the International Bar Association.

Concerns have been raised about the misuse of the INTERPOL system by authoritarian states to place pressure upon dissidents and political opponents.

Changes have been made to the INTERPOL notice removal process to take into account such potential abuses. However, questions remain as to whether these reforms have gone far enough, bearing in mind the very serious effect the issuance of such notices can have on an individual’s liberty.

This webinar will feature a discussion of the INTERPOL system and its use and potential abuse, in addition to the rule of law implications of this. The speakers will consider how the system might be improved to take into account any rule of law concerns.

The contents of the webinar will align with UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: peace, justice and strong institutions. This webinar will be of interest to lawyers in practice, government lawyers and academics.
