Charles Brown was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court on the 12th of July 2013 following a trial for computer misuse and possession of articles for fraud. An investigation by The Police Central e-crime Unit revealed that the defendant had accessed 84 bank accounts held by MyBarclaycard customers, with the total credit limits for the accounts amounting to £495,472.00.
The defendant was tracked through analysis of IP addresses, persistent cookies, and cell-site data. Forensic analysis of the unallocated space of a Mac Book Pro laptop seized from the defendant’s home address found fragments of data linked to many hundreds of other bank account holders from a wide range of financial institutions and different countries. Kevin Dent secured conviction of all counts and Charles Brown will be sentenced on the 8th of August 2013.
