Alex Rooke prosecuted at, Canterbury Crown Court, child rapist Brian Thrale. Thrale was sentenced to a 19 year Extended Determinate Sentence with a 4 year extended licence. The case presented significant sentencing complications as the offending went back 30 years, and Thrale was already serving a sentence of imprisonment imposed under a different sentencing regime. HHJ O’Mahony paid particular thanks to Mr Rooke for his assistance in providing lucid written submissions in what he described as a “very difficult sentencing exercise”. The Learned Judge directed that a copy of these submissions be placed before the Court of Appeal, should the need arise.
