Edmund Burge and Don Ramble conducted the successful prosecution of 3 people for the unlicenced supply of aircraft components that were diverted to Iran, and which were suspected of being used in that country’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) programme.  The three defendants were convicted of all charges following a trial lasting 6 weeks at Southwark Crown Court.  Alexander George, Paul Attwater and Iris Attwater had denied the charges, brought under CEMA 1979 and the Export Control Order 2008.  At the end of the evidence the trial judge accepted Edmund’s submission that Paul Attwater had no defence in law, whereupon he pleaded guilty.  Thereafter, the jury convicted Mr George and Mrs Attwater of the charges they each faced.  Edmund and Don were instructed by the Strategic Exports team within the CPS’s Specialist Fraud Division.
