Mark Cotter Q.C. (leading Charlotte Newell of 5 King’s Bench Walk) has secured the acquittal of a teenage boy facing charges of murder, possession of an offensive weapon and attempted wounding. The trial was heard over six weeks before HHJ Joseph Q.C. and concluded on the 25th October 2018 following four days of jury deliberations. Mark’s client had accepted presence at the scene of the incident, where a young man was stabbed to death over an argument involving a stolen motorbike. However, he denied having a weapon or participating in the attack. The case involved numerous eye witnesses, cell site evidence, CCTV evidence as well as evidence from social media. The first defendant was convicted of murder. Another defendant was acquitted of murder, having earlier pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.
Mark specialises in case involving Fraud, Homicide and Serious Sexual Offences. He also has particular experience of representing young defendants and also acting in cases of diminished responsibility on medical grounds.
