Alex Rooke recently prosecuted a City computer expert, for the attempted making of indecent images of children (IIoCs).
The use of attempt legislation in a Making IIOC case (believed to be a first) was necessitated by the defendant’s use of disk wiping software. Experts were able to find fragments of code deep within the hard drive which were then matched with code sequences retained on the Child Abuse Images Database, CAID, a national bank of child porn found on seized computers.
Alex’s careful and thorough exposition of the science and techniques necessary to understand the complex case led a jury at Woolwich Crown Court to convict the defendant, on 17th May 2019.
Alex maintains a busy 50/50 defence and prosecution practice, and believes this is the best way of learning and retaining the skills applicable to both sides of the courtroom. He has wide experience of cases involving serious violence, grave sexual offending fraud, and organised crime. He often appears alone against Queen's Counsel and 'senior juniors', and is known for his ability to deal sensitively with clients and witnesses who are having difficulty with the experience of the court process, be that because of vulnerability, cultural difference or simply what is at stake for the client.
