Dominic Connolly and John McNamara prosecuted a boiler room fraud worth in excess of £3 million at Southwark Crown Court. The trial concerned the fraudulent selling of binary options and subsequent money laundering of the proceeds by a husband and wife. The fraud was carried out by cold calling members of the public and the use of sophisticated software which gave the appearance of legitimate and successful trading. In reality this was a front to enable unsuspecting investors to part with more of their money.
The first defendant was convicted of conspiracy to defraud, receiving a 9 year sentence and the second defendant of money laundering, receiving a suspended sentence. Both defendants were disqualified from being a company director for 15 and 5 years respectively.
Dominic and John were instructed by the CPS Serious Economic Organised and International Directorate (SOEICD).
