Meeno Chawla represented an American national who is an international DJ/model. She was travelling to London Heathrow for a content creation trip, she brought with her £750,000 worth of cannabis, which was vacuumed packed and concealed in her suitcase.
Meeno successfully provided a basis of plea, which enabled the Judge to pass a reduced sentence of 12 months imprisonment. The basis of plea set out that she was a courier only, she performed a limited function under direction and there was limited awareness. This case was on the cusp between category 2 and 3 on the sentencing guidelines, which meant the sentence considered was 18 months, however with the basis of plea demonstrating lesser role features and Meeno argued for 20% credit, she was able to mitigate to a 12 month sentence.
