After a 4-day trial at the Royal Courts of Justice, the jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts on on one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm and one count of unlawful wounding.

Ellen Crow’s client was accused of attacking his co-worker on a building site over a dispute about step ladders. It was said that he caused the complainant to suffer a fractured shoulder and lacerations to the head which required staples.

The case turned on whether Ellen Crow’s client had been acting in lawful self-defence. Despite the complainant receiving injuries that were significantly more serious than those suffered by the defendant, the jury returned not guilty verdicts on both counts within an hour and 30 minutes of deliberation.
