Meeno Chawla secured the acquittal of her client charged with Assault on an Emergency Worker following a 3 day trial at Isleworth Crown Court.
Meeno’s client is an asylum seeker who does not speak English and was stopped by the police. He was unable to communicate fluently with the officers and no interpreter was provided at the scene. One officer alleged that the client was able to punch him in the lip and eye whilst being taken to the ground.
The jury heard from the officers at the scene before observing distressing footage at trial, which showed Meeno’s client on the floor with disproportionate force being used by the police. This led to the acquittal of her client.
Meeno was instructed by Yen Truong of Hudson Marshall Solicitors.
