Oliver Kirk, instructed by Old Bailey Solicitors, represents Stagecoach Bus Driver accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Following a trial at the Canterbury Crown Court, the bus driver was unanimously acquitted of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving

The charges arose from a tragic collision at Folkestone Bus Station in August 2022 when the bus driven by PK drove across the bus station, through a set of railings before colliding with and destroying a bus shelter in which a member of the public was sitting. Sadly the collision was fatal.

The prosecution case was that the defendant had applied the accelerator instead of the brake, whereas the defence contended that there had been a mechanical failure and that the bus had experienced a diesel runaway engine event.

The defence solicitor Camilla Rents instructed Carlo Vaquerizo, an accident reconstruction engineering specialist to review the prosecution material and the bus service records to assist the jury in deciding whether there was indeed such a mechanical defect.
