On 30 October 2020, Maria Scotland, Joint Head of the Family Team at 5SAH Chambers and Mackrell Solicitors Family and Relationship team presented our Family Law webinar on 'What do you need to think about if you want to relocate within the UK or overseas with children?'
The webinar considered the practical and legal implications of the relocation of children who share their time with their separated parents, whether that relocation is going to be in the UK or overseas:
- The law is such that the parent with whom the child spends the majority of their time cannot just move to a new location where such a move will impact on the time that the child spends with the other parent. Such moves can only be undertaken with the consent of both parents or with an order from the court.
- With many now re-evaluating their lives in light of the pandemic and thinking about maybe moving away from towns or cities, this event will be of relevance to anyone who has children and lives apart from the other parent and is considering relocating. This relocation maybe within England and Wales; Scotland or overseas; so whether it’s just within a few miles or even further from where they currently live, there are legal considerations.
- As part of this discussion, the speakers will look at practical considerations as well as the legal framework that applies to these issues, as well as the recent case law to give you a clearer perspective on the complexities of such issues.
