Sarah Fairbairn, instructed by Moorique Newman at Lawrence & Co, secured an acquittal for her client charged with attempted murder in a case transferred to Southwark from the Old Bailey.

The defendant had pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of wounding with intent and to possession of a bladed article after stabbing the victim three times in the head and neck with a kitchen knife. Sarah cross-examined the victim about inconsistencies in his account.

The defendant is a young man with complex mental health issues. Sarah called expert psychiatric evidence and successfully persuaded the jury that the defendant did not intend to kill the victim.

Sarah Fairbairn practises in all areas of criminal defence. She has developed a busy Crown Court practice, spanning a wide range of offences including murder, drugs, dishonesty, violence and sexual offences.
